ONAP’s functionality is driven by the use cases and functional requirements that it develops in response to specific CSP requests for support of their ongoing and future deployments.

Each ONAP release contain 5-10 different use cases and functional requirements, and it’s ONAP’s Use-Case Subcommittee (chaired by Alla Goldner) that drives the scope of each ONAP release by deciding which requested use cases to include, such as Residential vcPE, 5G network slicing and management, and 5G edge automation.

Here, Alla explains how ONAP’s use cases have evolved across releases and reveals the new use cases in the next (mid 2019) release where 5G is the major focus. Since use cases are created to support CSP requests, this is a unique opportunity to understand CSP’s most immediate priorities and network-management strategies and the new opportunities that ONAP is creating for our industry.
