Edge computing has been rightly listed as a rising area of interest in the computing industry. The idea of "Edge Computing" has been constantly evolving over the past few years. At the same time, open source communities have begun to define projects supporting edge computing. The entire ecosystem is rapidly evolving, at the same time as it's being built.

In this talk, we want to take a step back and present a vision for what "Edge Computing" will look like in the next 5 years. The evolution of compute units from mainframes to bare metal to virtual machines to containers to functions has proven that the industry is moving faster than ever. We will present how this rapid evolution will change "Edge Computing" in the future, and how open source can help to drive this evolution.
